Ah-oh,St.James said something bad,he said by faith and works,He isn't be really christian is he?
14What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?

15If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,

16And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

17Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

Works are our outward sign of our faith, not the source of redemption.

I find this whole argument splitting hairs. especially when some say that doing good works for others will send Catholics to hell.

Just plain silly.

he is saying that works is evidence of faith…. for instance, if you say you have faith that you will fly if you jump off of a cliff, but refuse to jump, do you really have faith?

Of course James is a christian. He wrote a letter to correct a bunch of people that claimed to be christians but didn’t do anything (ie their actions betrayed their words). Even Luther said that we are saved by faith alone, but it’s not faith that remain alone. So if your "faith" in God doesn’t produce any change in you, i seriously doubt that you have faith.

titus also says it is possible to disown god by your works

faith and works are equally as important

He also said, "Prove you have faith with your words, and I’ll prove I have faith by my actions". In other words, this entire passage is saying "Actions speak louder than words."

Don’t leave vital things out when you’re trying to quote someone!

That’s what the "Sola Fide," "Once saved, always saved" fundamentalist crowd would like us to believe.

Fortunately, those of us who are Catholic know better. Salvation is a journey, not an event, and God expects us to take care of our fellow pilgrims along the way.

You are confusing a couple of tenants of Christianity. I’ll try to help you. Most Christians believe that works can’t get you into heaven. James is saying that the concept of "faith" involves action. It’s one thing to believe a swinging bridge is sturdy enough to support you, but true faith is walking across the bridge, not just believing in it’s strength. None of that contradicts that salvation is a free gift and cannot be earned.

This is what Jesus was talking about when he spoke about your faith "bearing fruit."

It seems that you’re trying to make a point, rather than to ask a question. Unfortunately, your point isn’t clear.

No he says without both you are weak.

works are proof of ones faith.
This idea that works are not necessary is not theologically sound. This is put out by the same people that say once you are saved you are always saved—this is wrong too—this last gives confidence to the people who practice homosexuality because they figure —hey it doesn’t matter what I do because I am Heaven bound anyway.

oh that St James!!!
Did you know that St John Chrysostom modeled the divine liturgy from the one St James made for the Christians in Antioch?

St James rocks

That is why Martin Luther wanted to censor the New Testament and remove James and Hebrews.

The real problem with James, is he’s advocating the concept of "fake it until you make it". Maybe for some this approach can work; unfortunately, for most people it leads to trying to "buy" their way into heaven. Jesus said, seek first the kingdom of heaven, then all else will be added to you. This is much more in line with what Paul taught; which is, if you have real faith you won’t be able to resist the urge to do good works, God will use you as God sees fit. Works without faith are useless towards salvation and tend to lead a person into the sin of pride, this was the failing of the Mosaic Law (among others). Faith won’t allow a person to refrain from works. The differences between these two doctrines are extreme. We humans have an innate ability to fool ourselves, faith is a gift, and just as much, so are selfless works. I’m sure both were true believers; however, James was stuck in his belief in observance of the Mosaic Law while Paul was caught up in the Law of Love given by our Lord Jesus.
Hope this helps, God bless.
