How does garlic powder compare to fresh garlic nutritionally?
I don’t use fresh garlic on a weekly basis, but I do keep garlic powder on hand to use in recipes often. Does anyone know if the health benefits are different by using the powder versus the fresh?

Garlic powder is processed food. In order to have the healthy effect of garlic you need it fresh. This is the best natural antibiotic together with the honey.
Garlic is part of the Mediterranean eating lifestyle, one of the best in the world.

Real Garlic is best and tastier, but then again Garlic Powder is more concentrated, it all depends I should say on how much you use in each dish, whichever one you are using.

I want to try martial arts?
Which one is right for me:

I don’t want to spar, dont like that stuff
just want to be able to defend myself in the event that i get challenged
i like using weapons, but i wont use them in a fight :) , i just want to learn,
like using wooden swords and stuff
I was thinking kung fu? My friend is in tae kwan doe and spars A LOT
dont want any of that lol
Thanks

you should try gun fu, it is the same as being a wuss but you have a gun
Boom Kizzle | Feb 04, 2010

most martial arts spar or roll.. most have weapons of their own, though limited training in them.. you should look into kickboxing or kendo.. kendo is mosly sword fighting and kickboxing will not emphasize sparring.
chris b | Feb 04, 2010

Sparring is involved in 99% of martial arts. Some martial arts begin with a non contact type sparring and then move onto contact.
No name. | Feb 04, 2010

Try Hapkido.

There is no sparring, and is all about self defence, and even has some weapons training at higher belts. It has a little bit of everything too, strikes, kicks, throws, joint locks etc.
Moris W | Feb 04, 2010

Tai Chi Chuan is a defensive Chinese martial art which does not require sparring in order to learn. There are forms (Tai Chi Jian) that use the long sword and the broad sword.
Mantra | Feb 04, 2010

I would say Aikido is for you, it generally does not do any sparring at all providing you stay away from Shodokan Aikido. So yea in aikido you’ll study self defence techniques using circular motion and your opponents momentum against them. Its a nice style involving, locks and some throws, I always enjoyed it . You’ll generally also study use of the bokken and jo, learning different kata’s for them, as well as unarmed defence against weapons.

Edit: @moris, Hapkido does do sparring, at least the styles I’v witnessed

Edit 2: I’m not saying aikido is better than all other martial arts, I try to stay away from that kind of argument, cause there isnt really a right answer, it just doesnt involving sparring which is a requirment for the asker
Jon | Feb 04, 2010

Not all sparring is full contact, just try it out!
Stradivarius | Feb 04, 2010

If you do not like to spar how will you handle a real fight? While it is possible to be able to defend yourself in a fight without training in sparring, it is very unlikely and makes no difference if you are afraid of confrontation in the first place. My recommendation is that you find a martial arts studio/school, ask to watch a class to see if you like the style, and then just train the way your teacher wants you to train. If he teaches sparring just do it. Martial arts are about confidence, discipline, humility, and personal growth, not about doing what you want to do. You should trust in your teacher to give you the skills you need to defend yourself and not refuse any of his/her lessons.

Happy Training.
cunamo | Feb 04, 2010

Bottom line, look in the phone book and decide what is available in your area. Walk in or call ahead and ask for a free lesson and decide for yourself. If they do not offer free lessons, than you should not consider signing with them.
Gerald | Feb 04, 2010

well kung fu is right because it teaches you to use both your arms and legs instead of focusing on one and not the other along with weapon trainging like the 3 sectional staff, spear, double broadsword etc. Also 99 percent of martial arts involve sparring, because if you learn the moves but yet you never test it out, how will you know how to defend yourself. sparring helps you correct the moves you learn so that when you get into a real life situation you won’t have any mess up, thus saving you from getting killed or humiliated in front of a group of students.
murphy p | Feb 04, 2010

You should try it. Chinese martial arts are awesome, but sorry to disappoint you, you WILL spar. When I started, the last thing on my mind was sparring (I am a girl afterall and have never punched another human being), but you know what, sparring is great and I now look forward to that every week. It is so much fun and relieves a lot of stress. You don’t have to be violent or aggressive to spar. You are just learning to defend yourself.

Can you help me with an audition for 'Belle'?
I’m auditioning for ‘Belle’ from Beauty and the Beast tomorrow, and they are really picky about the girl they pick! I sort of have a headstart, as the Beast is one of my best friends, so i will be comfortable auditioning with him. But i need a little advice on how to play Belle (it’s the stage version, not the disney) so i can be as near perfect as possible! Thanks :)

nope. Good luck!
Kirsten | Feb 06, 2010

I was in this show. Belle is a very independent woman who fantasizes about love but doesn’t believe she will ever find it, like it’s beyond her simple country life. She is extremely dedicated and loyal to her father, and to the beast once they become friends. She is self-sacrificing and headstrong, so be confident but simple! Break a leg!

? | Feb 06, 2010

I hope you have read the script before auditioning.
Otherwise you’re trying to bring a stereotype character to life.

It always helps you to read and understand the script, have an idea of who the director is, what they have done before , how they are and what they like.

Otherwise the best you can do is the best "you" you can do. Sometimes directors like hearing what you sound like, see how you hold yourself and what kind of energy you have – if that is all there they may tolerate someone who hasn’t read the script, though this approach is incredibly tricky for a newbie.

All the best :)

Old School Wrestling: What were your feelings about Wrestlemania first King Kong Bundy's match?

You have to understand that at the time of the first Wrestlemania, they didn’t know that it would become the spectacle it is today (many in the WWE thought that it would only go two years and fail). The storylines heading into Wrestlemania weren’t even championship storylines. Hogan’s big deal with Rock ‘N Wrestling at the time, and therefore there was nothing huge to look forward to, and it was just a big experiment.

Bundy’s character was being portrayed as a superhuman "Goliath" of sorts, and even called for five-counts instead of the traditional three-count. So his squash match was understandable for the time of the event. Bundy went on to become a legend of the ring, so something must have gone right for him.

As a wrestling fan, then… I actually LIKED the way this worked out. I was a fan of bad guys, and Bundy just crushing S.D. Jones was a great push for him in a big show like that (despite S.D. Jones being sort of a jobber by that point).

But even so, wrestlers used to face jobbers all the time back then, with minimal storylines and more playing off of the "competition" which left all the wrestlers as "stars" despite being jobbers. You had this feeling that they weren’t going to win, but at the same time, you never knew when they would. Wrestling, nowadays, is a lot more predictable, and therefore Bundy’s squash was less expected than we’d think of it now…

SUCKED!
TheManDanEclipse | Feb 02, 2010

First WM match I remember with Bundy was WM2 against Hogan in a steel cage. I was much younger so pretty much a mark then, but I thought it was a great and much more compelling than anything in all of wrestling today.

What was this weird free feeling?
ok, so I was watching a movie (the last mimzy) one night and somewhere near the end the kid in the movie did this humming buzzing noise with his throught. You probably know what I mean if you’ve seen the movie. Anyway, when the kid made that noise, I don’t know why but it made me feel joyful and excited. it seemed like it was filling me up. I felt like I was flying. That is exactly what I was thinking. the first thing that came to my mind was "This is flying" but I knew where I was and everything. I felt free and happy. It lasted about 3 minutes. It was powerful and impossible to ignore. So now that you know the details, here is my question: Does anybody know what happened here? pretty general question but please don’t give me any smart-ass answers.

It could be that you are suffering just a little bit from depression, and when you heard this particular sound or humming, it lifted your spirits! I suffer for GAD and depression and music is good for you. There is a particular little tune called "the music box". When I feel really down I play this tune and it helps to lift my spirits and actually makes me feel a little bit better for a while. I hope you can relate to this, and if it makes you feel good try to download whatever the humming sound was, especially if there is a name to associate with the humming. I really hope this helps and if it does, maybe you should see a doctor to help you if you do suffer from depression.

Can someone read my essay (a movie summary of a love story during the French Revolution)?
During 1789, the beginning of the French Revolution, the three different social classes, or estates, weren’t getting along. The Third Estate, the poorest of the three, was rebelling and protesting the laws of Louis XVI because of the unfair taxing put on their property. This film goes back in time to 1781, where Adeline Du Pont meets Emile Auclair-a young girl and boy, living in what seems to be a perfect world, oblivious to the real world of estates and laws. Adeline and Emile both live in France, and are both children of third estate parents. They are torn apart when Adeline’s sister marries into nobility, making her family become part of the Second Estate, causing the Du Pont’s to move. Emile and Adeline promise each other that they will meet again.

The story then continues in Emile’s point of view, showing the hardships and struggles he must go through to provide a stable home for his family. Emile’s mother must take care of his blind father, an ex-writer, meaning that Emile must work twice as hard to keep his home. As Emile grows up, his father tells him about Louis XVI, and how he is the man causing distress upon the Third Estate- rising bread prices, taxing on property, and terrible wages. Day after day, hearing his father’s rants about Louis, he decided he had to do something. He heard his cousin, Jacques Necker, was going to be appointed Louis’ financial expert. Emile helps Jacques come up with ideas of reducing extravagant court spending, reform government, and abolish burdensome tariffs on internal trade. They also came up with the idea of taxing the First and Second Estates- but this is what causes Jacques to be fired. This brings Emile’s hopes down, but he could not just stop here- he has to do what he can, not only for himself, but for his family and the Third Estate.

During June 1789, when the National Assembly, which represented the people of the Third Estate, was formed, he hurries to the first meeting, along with his father, which takes place on a tennis court. Taking the Tennis Court Oath, Emile and his father swear never to separate and meet wherever the circumstances might require until they have established a sound and just constitution. In late August, the National Assembly issues the Declaration of the Rights of Man, which announces that all men are born equal and should enjoy natural rights to liberty, property, security, and resistance to oppression.

On October 5, 1789, about six thousand women, and many men, including Emile, riot through the streets, coining the phrase "Bread!" demanding to see the King, but much of the anger is being directed towards Marie Antoinette, because she is ignorantly wasting money on personal interests. During this riot, the crowd breaks into the house of Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI, during the middle of a house party. The crowd is in search of Marie Antoinette, wanting her dead. Emile, who opposes violence, goes off to search, but rather takes time to look around, for never before being in a noble’s house. While on his tour, he finds a girl hiding the coat closet, begging for him to either kill her quickly, or spare her and let her go. As she talks, he recognizes her voice- the sweet, melodic voice of Adeline. He asks her name, but she refuses to give it to him, so he says that he is Emile Auclair. Adeline comes out from behind and asks him what he is doing there, but Emile is in too much of a hurry to find her an escape, not wanting her to die or be beheaded. He takes her to his house, and disguises her in peasant’s clothing. They plan an escape to Adeline’s country house in Italy- by foot. Once they make it there, they are so overwhelmed with joy, that they realize that the revolution was meant to happen, because if it wasn’t, he never would have been at the right place, at the right time, to save her. The years go on, showing their life as they grow older- Emile and Adeline Du Clair.

PLEASE BE AS CRITICAL AS YOU NEED TO BE.
It was an assignment, it had to be four paragraphs, and have three dates.
(:

wait for your teachers critic, that would be the most important one and most likely the best one.
slickrickdesigns | Nov 12, 2009

Too many commas, use some words to bridge the different parts of the sentences together, and also.. your teacher can google your essay and when they do the FIRST link that pops up would be you asking this question on yahoo answers.
SimplyAdam | Nov 12, 2009

Your essay seems to nice enough. You did comply with the number of paragraphs and you were able to provide four dates …
The first part isn’t too interesting… and the element of a love story seems to be missing. Though this was explained at the last paragraph…
The fourth paragraph is the most interesting part… but I guess this is mainly because of the movie’s plot.
Just make the first part a little more interesting… that’s my suggestion.
