Racing Stripes
Racing Stripes (2005)

IMDB rating: 5.30

Plot: In the middle of a raging thunderstorm, a traveling circus accidentally leaves behind some very precious cargo—a baby zebra. The gangly little foal is rescued by horse farmer Nolan Walsh, who takes him home to his young daughter Channing. Once a champion thoroughbred trainer, Walsh has given up horse training for a quiet life with Channing on their modest Kentucky farm. The little zebra, or “Stripes,” as Channing calls him, is soon introduced to the farm’s misfit troupe of barnyard residents, led by a cranky Shetland Pony named Tucker and Franny, a wise old goat who keeps the family in line. The group is joined by Goose, a deranged big-city pelican who’s hiding out in the sticks until the heat dies down in Jersey. The un-aptly named bloodhound Lightening keeps a lazy eye on goings-on at the farm – in between naps. The Walsh farm borders the Turfway Racetrack, where highly skilled thoroughbreds compete for horse racing’s top honor, the ultra-prestigious Kentucky Crown. From the first moment Stripes lays eyes on the track, he’s hooked—he knows that if he could just get the chance, he could leave all those other horses in the dust. What he doesn’t know is—he’s not exactly a horse. But with characteristic zeal, he devotes himself to training for the big time, with a little help from Tucker, who has coached a host of champion racehorses in the past.

What do britsh people think of From the united states and the accents?
I have done a lot of research and the majority of it said that people from england think we are fat, dumb, snobby, whiney, annoying, obese, we eat mcdonalds for everymeal and things like that. Now, aside from the fat part because we already know that, why do you think we are snobby and that we don’t give a damn about anything but ourselves? And If you don’t agree with the characteristics of the united states I just listed thank you very much and what are YOUR opinions on the us?
Oh and do they teach about the American revolution over there? They wouldn’t right? Or do they?

Hello Ashley,

I am a British and an American citizen and have lived the majority of my life in England. It is true that many british people say most of the things you mentioned about America (often in jest). However, this is not true across the board. I have never heard a Brit call an American as snobby! Much more the other way around!
Americans tend to be more inwardly focused (as a nation in general) and less involved in and aware of the rest of the world as British people like to think they are.
What I have heard most often is that many British find the, often mentioned, American aversion to free health care for all (especially America’s own children) and housing, frightening and a sign that Americans don’t really care about one-another, only their individual selves.
I, personally, have found both wonderful and non-steryotype people on both sides of the pond. For example: I know an American, gourmet cooking, tea loving, well traveled, ancient asian studies professor that would greatly disappoint a stereotype loving brit who thought they understood Americans. I’ve met many fat, chip loving, game show watching people in England that have never read a book out of school too. America and Great Britain value many of the same things. So many brits love to holiday in the states!
To say that Americans are loud, burger munching and aggressive is the same as saying that British people are moody, larger and tea swilling and snooty. It’s not a total lie, just a stereotype. I think, overall, that "Yanks" and "Limey’s" pick on each other like a loving pair of old siblings. The Brit’s being the older of the two; of course LOL
Oh,yes, they teach about the American revolution and other old wars in English schools. They lean a bit heavier on the burning of the original white house in 1812 and lighter on Paul Revere’s heroic ride. Then, it’s the other way around in the U.S.

I think America is too spoiled. Everyone think they are hot shots. You tried to find out something about me? You are a stalker. You said something not politically correct? You are a bigot. We are just a nation of whiners. And too many dumb people try to act smart by using sarcasm.
jeremy | Feb 03, 2010

I do NOT eat mcdonalds everyday… McDonalds sucks… But personally I care a lot for myself so some of it is true. Not so much snobby though, or maybe it’s my neighborhood. I think we are basically stupid, for a number of reasons

im not from britain but Australia, and im not speaking on behalf of myself nor the whole population, but A LOT of Australians think americans are arrogant etc. this is probably because americans (idk if its media or the whole population) are so critical of our country, even though they have no idea what they are talkingabout half the time.
Mako | Feb 03, 2010

mixed.
I have been to america for a holiday. Florida and new York. have met Americans on a cruise and here in Uk and In Australia. overall they come across as being loud and self interested with a low opinion of other countries.
I also have worked with americans form time to time. here I see tow sorts . one is that sort whom acts an a typical example we note or read about a being too loud, ignoring others and very self centred. I have also seen amd met others whom are generous, kind and aware of others and local tradition’s and habits.
I suspect it is really about what part of america you come from. social class most likely, others get same feelings about brits. from some parts we have very loud, fat and ignorant folk whom are also self centred and intent on own happiness ignoring others on a plane , in a queue etc.
again we have others whom open doors, offer a Smile and are almost unnoticeable and so quite they go around folk moving out of way nimbly etc.
overall America is seen by most as worlds military leader ( so far) economic power house but very very self centred. eg films ,money ., flag waving and so on . with little interest in others if its not in own interest.
accents are in general liked.

My neighbor is from the UK, (born and lived there until she was in her 40’s) she is great. So much fun. Here is the weird thing, she cannot understand me because of my heavy accent. I was born and raised and rarely have I ever left the Great Lakes area of the US…and in her British accent (the irony that I have to say "what" to her all the time is not lost on us) she tells me she can’t understand my heavy accent. It is now a joke with us, I call her pot and she calls me denial kettle. She is way snobbier than me and way skinnier, but she owns a full length mink coat (bought at a second hand shop in a ritzy part of London, but gets attacked for wearing it here in the States)…so we figure our evils are equal. Neither one of us knows what the hell the other is saying, but I know, she is the only one with the accent, and the snobby mink coat. Like I tell her, it gives me plus points. She agrees, not that I am confident that she knows what I am saying and what she is agreeing too. It’s all good fun with us, no malice, nothing but respect and some laughs. It should always be like us. and we speak the same language…the irony meter just went into overload.
Jinxed_Jewel | Feb 03, 2010

I am British living in England and married to an american and she is like me serving Jehovah and one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. I have to say the americans I have visited over in the States are nice people, I know there is good and bad in every country but in general they are just that – people. And to catogorize an entire nation by stereotyping is false and bigotted. Could someone who stereotypes people really not be themselves what they accuse others of being? Besides I can’t think americans are all that bad since I married one. But humans are basically the same in needs whatever their culture.

Where did it all go wrong, Gary? When will Sir Alex express his discomfort with Mr. Neville?
Gary – bless him – spent last week telling us Carlos Tevez had to leave because his ‘price was too high’ – spoken like a seasoned union man who was always keen to fight the fight, making fans smile and grateful there is one who ‘tells it like it is’ – despite Manchester City’s spending habits and the Tevez episode being none of his damned business. Then along comes a chance with him actually talking to the 75,000-plus United fans (wherever they come from), resting their particular concerns about where the club (he plays for) is going with the Glazer circus. His answer:-
"It’s nothing to do with us at all…we never get involved with the financial side of things."
Oh my sweet Lord…mea maxima culpa! Pressed the – er…Scottish button by mistake!

Didn’t he cause the tunnel fracas a few years back with Roy Keane terrifying Patrick Viera.

Speed Racer
Speed Racer (2008)

IMDB rating: 6.60

Plot: Hurtling down the track, careening around, over and through the competition, Speed Racer is a natural behind the wheel. Born to race cars, Speed is aggressive, instinctive and, most of all, fearless. His only real competition is the memory of the brother he idolized-the legendary Rex Racer – whose death in a race has left behind a legacy that Speed is driven to fulfill. Speed is loyal to the family racing business, led by his father, Pops Racer, the designer of Speed’s thundering Mach 5. When Speed turns down a lucrative and tempting offer from Royalton Industries, he not only infuriates the company’s maniacal owner but uncovers a terrible secret-some of the biggest races are being fixed by a handful of ruthless moguls who manipulate the top drivers to boost profits. If Speed won’t drive for Royalton, Royalton will see to it that the Mach 5 never crosses another finish line. The only way for Speed to save his family’s business and the sport he loves is to beat Royalton at his own game. With the support of his family and his loyal girlfriend, Trixie, Speed teams with his one-time rival-the mysterious Racer X – to win the race that had taken his brother’s life: the death-defying, cross-country rally known as The Crucible.

If your speed is 100 mph at the end of a quarter mile what is the ET ?
Come on drag racers, somebody knows this from experience.

The et will vary greatly depending on car and driver, a close guess would
be in the low 13’s, no 12’s

| Feb 03, 2010

Well now, that would depend if you did 100mph the entire 1/4 mile, if you had linear acceleration up to 100mph across the entire 1/4 mile, or if you crawled the first thousand feet then rocketed to 100mph.

You can watch AWDs get ridiculous launches and come in around 13 flat and not reach 100mph, then you can watch FWD struggle the first 60ft then take off, and end up with a 15 flat and end up in excess of 100mph.

ken k | Feb 03, 2010

If you had linear acceleration, then time would be simply distance/speed = 1320/100 = 13.2 secs. One site I visited calculated the time to 13.6 secs.

2010 FIFA…Remembering a Decade…2009 Barcelona are HexaCampions!!!?
What a decade it was for 2000’s…war, global warming, dying economy, faster internet, cell phones, Britney and Beyonce, Kim Kardashian, Brangelina, TomKat, Spiderman 3, ipods and iphones, Minis and smart cars, Bush and Obama, AIG, Enron, Microsoft v Apple, Pope John Paul III is out and Benedict is in, Afghanistan and Iraq, pirates in Somalia, Pirates of the Carribean, swine flu, facebook, youtube and let’s not forget…Yahoo Answers!!!

But let’s ponder on the world’s greatest sport in this decade, France and Euro 2008, Bayern 2001, the finale of the Galacticos, Brazil’s World Cup in 2002, Beckham sadly a world icon, Milan wins shootout, 2004…Mourinho to Ronaldinho, Lucky Greece, Lucky Liverpool, beautiful Barcelona, Italy campione del mondo 2006, Milan get revenge, rise of Messi and CRonaldo, EPL best in 2007-08, oh the drama in Moscow…

But none of that was comparable to 2008-2009 Barcelona!!!

Yes they are the greatest team of all time.

It’s the start of the 08-09 La Liga, new manager Pep Guardiola is now in charge. Ronaldinho, Zambrotta, Giovani and Deco are gone, but Daniel Alves and Hleb come in. Doesn’t seem so great from here for Barcelona, especially when they lose the first game to Numancia and draw the next game vs Racing Santander. But the CL was different, their first game against Sporting Lisbon was easy, a 3-1 victory, first of the season. Then Barcelona destroy Sporting Gijon 6-1, destroy Atletico 6-0, Almeria 5-0, Basel 5-0, Sporting again 5-2, Valencia 4-0. It was time to prove themselves vs Real Madrid, and Barcelona wins 2-0, they are on top of La Liga, on top of the world.

It’s 2009 now, they haven’t lost a game since Numancia until they lose to Espanyol. In the Round of 16, they face Lyon, but after coming from a loss, they only manage for a 1-1 draw, but not as bad because it’s an away goal. Sadly Barcelona lose again to Atletico 3-4, but it was still a great match. They beat Lyon 4-0 at Camp Nou, and cruise through Bayern 4-0 at Camp Nou, meanwhile destroying Deportivo 5-0 and Malaga 6-0. Messi is the best in the world since this season started.

But here comes trouble, Chelsea FC, who stopped the Barcelona attack and held them 0-0 at Camp Nou, putting pressure on Barcelona to get away goals. Meanwhile, Barcelona travel to Madrid for El Clasico at the Santiago Bernebeu. Though Higuain scores first for Real Madrid, Henry and Puyol quickly strike back, and for Real Madrid it’s downhill. The final score, 6-2, goals from Messi, Xavi and Pique. It would be Barcelona’s last win in La Liga, but it basically gave Barcelona the La Liga title for 2008-09, 1/3 trophies were completed.

At Stamford Bridge, it’s May 6, Essien scores a brilliant volley, Chelsea had the lead almost the entire game. But magically (also credit to Tom Ovrebo), Andres Iniesta gets the pass from Messi and nails it in the top right corner. Iniesta and Barcelona celebrate at Stamford Bridge, even with 10 men. No matter what conspiracy "helped" Barcelona, Iniesta was pure magic, unearthly.

After cruising through the Copa del Rey, Barcelona face Athletic Bilbao at the Mestalla in Valencia. Toquero scores first for Bilbao, but after Yaya Toure makes a brilliant goal, it’s all level. Messi then lifts Barcelona 1 up in the 54th. Bojan then hits the nail on the coffin 3 minutes later, 4-1 would be the score, 2/3 trophies for Barcelona.

It’s May 27th, and what a venue to hold the Champions League Final, Barcelona vs Manchester United, two of the best teams in the world going at it Gladiator style (jk). La Liga v EPL, Messi v CRonaldo, Super Attack v Super Defence, there’s a myth that you can’t win a championship by playing beautiful, can Barcelona break it? Yes they did. After Manchester United controlled the first 10 minutes, Iniesta gives it to Eto’o, he shoots and scores for Barcelona, they are 1 up after 10 minutes. The game is still alive, but can Barcelona do more? Yes they can, Xavi curls a cross to Messi, in his new electric blue F50i’s, and goes airbourne, he heads it to the right corner of the net and Barcelona are up by 2, 20 minutes from completing a treble. 20 minutes later, Massimo Bussacca blows the whistle and Barcelona are 3/3, Tri-Campions. Barcelona make history and become the first Spanish club to win a treble. Can you believe that Real Madrid never won 3 trophies in one season, even with all the superstars they had. And can you believe that Pep Guardiola, a new manager, would lead Barcelona to so much success? I didn’t, but it happened!!!

What else is there to prove??? Well a lot actually. After Eto’o, Gudjohnsen, Hleb and Sylvinho leave, Ibrahimovic, Maxwell, Chygrynsky, and a bunch of youth players (Gai, Muniesa, Jonathan, Thiago) come in. Barcelona are now in the Supercopa against Bilbao, and though de Marcos gives Bilbao the lead before the half, Xavi and Pedro score, and Barcelona win the first leg away 2-1.

A great team definetly, one of the greatest of all time. But the greatest of the greatest? I know being Hexacampeon is a big achievement, but a majority of the teams beaten to win about 3 or 4 of these cups weren’t exactly world class. Now if this era of Barca can win 5 consecutive CL’s (which Real achieved) then I will admit this Barca is the greatest of all time. Until then I’m not too sure.

Ancient Egypt: BA and KA. Please need help.?
I’m a little confused about the BA and KA. I read that then when someone dies their goal is to live with your KA, and it needs a eternal home (body). So that means the person doesnt go to the after life? Can someone please explain. Also the BA.

I also read this
When a person dies, so the Egyptians believed, the ba and ka become seperated from the body, though they do not die. In the New Kingdom period and after, the Egyptians effected this seperation through the Opening of the Mouth ritual, in which the ba and ka are released to go to the next world.

In the next world, or underworld, the goal is to live with ones ka. In order for this to happen, the ka needs to be summoned back to the body and recognize it. But since the body is bound in its wrappings, it must rely on its ba to seek out its ka. During the nightime, when the sun god, Ra, is said to visit the underworld, the ba may roam freely in the underworld, or to popular places in this world, but it’s anchor in this world, where it must return when Ra leaves the underworld, is the body, because together they are part of the same whole being.

In seeking a union with the ka, the ba must overcome many potential dangers in the underworld. But if it does succeed, it will reunite with the ka and form what is called akh. The Egyptian’s believed that there are only three kinds of beings that inhabit the hereafter: the dead, the gods, and akhs. Akhs are those who have successfully made the transition to new life in the next world, where they live with the gods. The dead are those who have failed to make the transition. It is said that they have "died again," with no hope of renewed life."

So in order for one to enter the after life, the the BA and KA need to reunite?

FORD ESCORT PROBLEMS PLEASE HELP!!?
I asked this question before and and still no solution

it is long, please help??

we don’t have any money.

my mom has an 88 ford escort.
I am sorry I don’t know any other specs than that, I am completely ignorant when it comes to vehicles.

but if it means anything, almost every single part is brand new except the paint job.

here are its symptoms:

–takes 3..6..10 tries to crank
–when cranked up, makes horrible grinding sound and popping sounds (like cars in the "old" days do in the movies)
–dies after about a minute. on next attempt to crank, makes horrible grinding and straining noise.
–will not start now.

I’m car ignorant — I do know she has these new parts:

timer belt
battery cables
battery
various plugs, wires and bolts
distributor/distributor cap
fuel filter? fuel something
brand new ignition
new starter
new clutch, clutch plate, bearings? barings? baarrriings.

we have a friend working on her car, it just won’t crank up. if she pumps the gas, it will idle a few minutes, then die

sounds to be a timing problem maybe, check the base (engine) timing and ignition timing
